Lab Operations

Reports To: Chief Scientific Officer

Basic Purpose

A senior member of the company who will be entrusted with management of our world-class clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory that performs clinical testing services and contract services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all samples received for clinical testing or contract research are processed as per the agreed protocol and within the committed TAT
  • Coordinating with the research team to schedule running research samples alongwith ops samples to optimally utilise lab resources
  • Continuously monitoring and enhancing laboratory procedures, pipelines and systems to assure the highest quality clinical test results with unparalleled accuracy
  • Exploring ways to reduce operating costs without negatively affecting testing quality and accuracy
  • Leadership and co-ordination of clinical reporting, and co-ordination with doctors, clinics, hospital, external laboratories, patients and other clients
  • QA/QC supervision and compliance
  • Managing inventory levels and ensuring orders are placed on time for items needed
  • Providing scientific and clinical assessment of emerging technologies and new product opportunities
  • Contributing to assay development and validation of new tests in conjunction with the R&D team
  • Engaging in scientific presentations at national meetings and peer-reviewed publication
  • Evaluating the scientific literature to support current and future test offerings
  • Mentoring the lab team
  • Ensuring total compliance with all company policies and government regulations.
  • Performing any other tasks as assigned by the leadership

Expectations – Candidate should meet or exceed the following expectations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior molecular biology skills
  • A thorough understanding of technical procedures and regulatory requirements in a clinical molecular diagnostic laboratory setting
  • Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (preferably Illumina), Microarray (preferably Affymetrix), real-time PCR is a must.
  • Additional experience with bioinformatics is preferable
  • Preferably trained and/or experienced working internationally and at a minimum experience and familiarity with international work culture

Educational qualifications

  • Ideal: MD, PhD - Molecular Genetics or Molecular Pathology or Microbiology with FABMG/ FRCPath
  • Acceptable: PhD in molecular biology, genetics, microbiology or related areas with experience in clinical diagnostics or MD with hands-on molecular laboratory experience

Work Experience

  • Overall 15+ years of experience in lab operations
  • 3+ years of experience in lab leadership role and managing a multidisciplinary laboratory team
